After lunch they did just that - running on the beach like they had been set free. Isaac kept looking back at us to see if we would tell him to slow down or to be careful, or that he shouldn't do this or that. But there were no rules here - just wide open space that he could run. Abby danced through the cold waters at the ocean's edge with her own song of freedom playing in her head. And Matt and I just stood back and watched them take it all in.
We took the rest of the day easy - getting set up at our site along the Klamath River, gathering information on trails to hike, and trying to see some views along the high bluffs of the coast. The fog was pretty thick, and we couldn't see much...so we landed back at the beach at Wilson Creek after dinner. The air was cold and damp, but the kids didn't care - it was all so new to them. We had the whole place to ourselves as we watched for harbor seals in the distance and the kids played on the beach. They spent over an hour making tipis and seesaws out of driftwood, marching along a fallen log, and creating a "show" with found seaweed and sticks. Once we were all chilled to the bone, we headed back to our warm camper with smiles on our faces.
