The kids and I have spent the last two days packing the camper and the truck cab full of all that we might possibly need over the next seven weeks. We've got everything from food and clothes to charger cords for the various portable entertainment devices that are in tow. Somewhere inside are national park guidebooks waiting to be poured over and cameras with empty memory cards waiting to be filled with new family memories.
The truck has four brand new tires and the camper tire pressure has been checked, the tank is full of gas, and the truck cab is stocked with pillows and blankets for the kids in preparation for our 4:30am departure. Matt has turned off his e-mail and shut down his laptop, signed off with his contacts at work, and downloaded lots of cool new apps for his phone. I've done laundry and dishes more times in the last two days than I thought humanly possible... We are all systems go for lift off.
We have dreamed about this trip for longer than we have spoken the idea of it aloud. We have actively planned for it over the past seven months. Now - now we are ready to experience it. Some people say we are crazy...to leave home for seven weeks, to be cooped up together in the cab of a truck/camper for that long, to spend that long on the road, or to try to see so many places. Most, however, are excited at the very idea of such an adventure. People get a twinkle in their eyes when we explain what we're doing. The smile on their faces and in their voices suggests that our dream is not all that different than that of many others - to have the opportunity to step away from the reality of everyday life to explore the beauty of creation, to spend so much focused time with family, or to seek adventure in new and different ways. This blog is dedicated to you. May you have your own adventures this summer as you follow along with us.
