Lewis & Clark Learnings

One day ago I went to the arch. I watched a Lewis and Clark movie on a giant screen! I learned that Lewis and Clark brought lots of people to help them on their journey. Clark brought a slave named York with him who had been with him since he was a child. When Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific Ocean, it was almost winter time. So they had to make camp to stay until Spring. They took a vote on where to make the camp, and it was the first time in recorded history that a slave was allowed to vote (1805). Sacagawea was also allowed to vote on where to make the camp, which was the first time that a woman was allowed to vote as well. Sometime after returning from the expedition, Clark's slave (York) was likely set free.

I also rode on a very small tram car to the top. Then I went to Yogi Bear Park (aka Jellystone). Last night we went to Sioux Falls on the Big Sioux River. I got to climb around and I looked into a little canyon with litter and a big pile of foam. I also got to ride the buffalo.
