Leaving Carlsbad and heading for Brownwood meant that our trip was nearing its end. We had a long driving day ahead of us - the first of the three it would take to get back to Atlanta. But we also had a wonderful break in our day when we stopped in Odessa, TX to have lunch with Matt's aunt, Karon, and her family. We were able to have a leisurely lunch with time to catch up and reconnect with everyone. Abby and Isaac hit it off immediately with their second cousins - Sam and Zach, picking up like they play together all the time...even though Isaac wasn't even born the last time we saw them. It's difficult to keep up with everyone when we are in Atlanta and most of Matt's family is in Texas, but we are always so grateful for moments like these.
We pulled into Brownwood with time to visit and catch up before dinner. After quick hugs hello for Bema and Peepaw, Isaac made a mad dash to the bedroom closet where he knew he would find the legos and other toys saved from Matt's childhood. Apparently talking is over-rated when legos are in the picture - especially legos that move with battery-powered engines. Seriously, he had been talking about what he planned to do with the legos for days prior to our arrival...the energy and anticipation had worked him up to a near frenzied state.
After the second meal of the day spent catching up with family, we all enjoyed making ourselves at home - and spreading out a bit more at the bathroom sink for a change - before heading off to our first night in a real bedroom in over six weeks.
